Gray Line Tours offers a small bus that takes you to more than 20 destinations. When taking a taxi, make sure the cab driver turns on the meter, commonly called the "maria." The rate starts at 550 colones, which is approximately 1 US dollar. If the driver does not have a meter, negotiate the fare before getting in. A 10-to-15 minute driving distance should cost no more than 2500 colones. Cab drivers are usually very friendly and can be quite helpful. Quite a few car rental agencies offer varying rates, depending on the tourism season. Between December and March expect to pay anywhere between $200 to $550 US dollars per week.
